Just replaced the cats in our 96 E320. Rattling noise at idle coming from the passenger side was our first indication. Performance issue after about 2 weeks of rattling. When I cut out the old cats, the brick was basically in dust.

We used a DEC catalytic and replaced both O2 sensors with Bosch. Dealer wanted over $2k for the cats alone. The cat from thebenzbin.com was $441 with free shipping.

No issues with the DEC product at all. 5k miles on them since replacement.

It can be done diy with ramps and some patience to save money on the repair.
