Question Regarding Clear Headlamps

I recently upgraded the regular lighting system (yellow lights) on my 96' E320 to H.I.D 8000K bulbs. Now, I am planning to get the clear head lamps. I've contacted several performance shops here in Toronto, but none of them can get a hold of these clear head lights. As usual, I've been forced to check over eBay.

I came across this eBay auction;

eBay.ca: 96-98 99 MERCEDES W210 E300/E320/E430 HEAD LIGHT LAMPS (item 110078590183 end time 19-Jan-07 00:01:37 EST)

I was reading the description of the head lamps when this really confused me,

"Work with halogen Or Xenon-gas within the bulbs (Not compatible with H.I.D. lighting system))"

I've emailed the auctioneer, but I have not recieved a response yet.

All I want to know is whether my H.I.D bulbs will fit into this clear head lamp ?

Thanks guys

A lens that works with a halogen bulb is always different than a lens working with an HID lamp.

Installing HID "bulb" into a halogen system provides incorrect, useless, illegal lighting.

It sounds like you may not completely understand what an HID bulb is--an HID bulb is an arc light that requires a separate ballast to ignite it. Even if you were to purchase one of the silly "kits" to retrofit your halogen lights, it would cost at least $300 per side.

Just to add: The kit that I purchased was an HID Xenon Light System..

Thanks for the insight Chris. Is there anyway to get clear head lamps for the car with a xenon HID system ?

the only legal HID clear lens would be OEM....of which, there is none for your model/yr.
your best option is to purchase clear lens headlight and yank out the halogen
projector inside and to custom fit an HID projector. that will give you near perfect
focus compared to OEM (better, in this case). still illegal but the best of the illegals.

dropping in an HID kit is the ugliest, the most primitive, the chinsiest of all the HID mods

just to chime in

I hate the look of my E, and would like to just upgrade to a newer model, but finances prevent that this year.

I went to my indie and asked him what i could do about "freshening" the look of my car. We talked about tailights, headlights etc.

I mentioned that I thought about buying some aftermarket clear lamps on eBay, and he said that becuase they're pretty cheap, it would not be too great an expense to put them in then if I didn't like them to take them out.

I asked if this was common and he said yes. He seemed to think that I'd be very pleased with the way they look on the car, but I would hate the funcitonality of them. He said that many of them are not made very well and when the bulb goes into them, they don't fit as well as OEM. At night, when driving and hit a bump/pothole/ridge, the light could have a tendancy to jiggle.

He's right. That would make me insane.

I'm gonna suck it up, and wear this puppy right out and upgrade when I can.
