Did a transmission service on my car yesterday. All went pretty well and as expected. The job is no different than doing it on any other Mercedes and it's actually not as messy as some. Got about seven liters to drain out of the torque converter and pan.
I'm sending the ATF away to be analyzed so I can compare it to the used ATF the first time around.
i have a 2001 E430. i just bought my first MB. jsut wondering about maintaining the car. can we do our own pm's? such as changing transmission fluid, brakes, etc....is there any specials tools you need. i need help. please......
My '99 diesel is extremely DIY friendly. You generally don't need any special tools other than a decent set of metric tools. An OBDII scanner helps sometimes too, but you can get away without that.

Mine was dark (blackish like graphite powder) and semi-transparent when the tech changed it at 59,000 miles, and the lab analysis stated that it's "quality" was consistant with a first-ever fluid replacement. There was no hint of a red/pink color. The tech's opinion was that it was not that bad.
