How do I replace the turn signal "flasher"??

I'm going to LED's. so i need to replace the turn signal flasher or go the resistor route. I have found 3 to 6 ohm 50 watt resistors on the net for $ 2 each, but I prefer to replace the flasher with an electronic unit. I can hear a "clicker" in the left hand dash area, but I am not sure that this is really a working flasher of just a sound unit!!
I have replaced the P21/W4 rear turn signal/tail light bulb with a modified American 1157 LED and the original 1156 front turn signal lamp with an 1156 LED, so the final change is the flasher.

thanks for your help.
