well it says that u should be able to fit the H7 bulb which is the stock...i dont have HID's but i am guessing that HID's come in H7 bulb also...i just dont know how good these lights are...and best bet to email the company and ask them if they will work with HID system in your car
you have 98 E320 with xenon....but you didn't say if this is HID, and whether this
was OEM headlight system.
If OEM, then you have HID reflector headlights, which utilizes D2R bulbs.
If you have HID kit, clarify what it is you have since kits tend to be a combination
of Franstein cobbled parts and adaptors. Also, identify if you have D2R or D2S
bulb currently.
Depos came in 2 versions. HID ready and regular. Regular version fits the same bulbs as the original (except for the small parking light 8w replaced with wedge 5w). It is not well designed to withstand the heat from the xenon or hid kit. The HID ready version, on the other hand not only a bit better shielded (or so they say), but also comes with the cage to mount the balast the rubber spacer for wires and D2S/D2R socket.
If you have OEM xenon it's either D2S or D2R, as raymond- pointed out. So both bulbs have the same socket. And perfectly fits the HID version of the Depo light (low beam only). High beam is the same as the original.
My recommendation to you is: if you want to use OEM xenon kit, get the HID version of Depo. I have eaten a few dogs on this subject, and posted a lot about this so read my old posts on this subject (if you haven't already).
Having said that, allow me to talk you out of Depos. You get what you pay for. I absolutely hate the light pattern on mine. There are more posts on this forum that talk about replacing the projector from W211 or BMW X5. That may be the way to go. Just want you to be aware.
I have stock e320 HID headlights. Not xenon, blah.. I was a bit confused.
So, Can anyone give me a link to the depo lights that fit my hid's?
I'm doing this for my mom, So I don't think she will care much about light pattern.
That is unless they are just so terrible they don't light up the road....
Just aslong as the fitment is good, and the seal is good, I think We will be ok.
:-) yeah, it can be tricky to get all the terms lined up.
okay, you have OEM HID (yes, they are xenon...but not
all xenons are HID). you have fluted inner and outer lens
and you use D2R bulb. you have a reflector based HID.
you want to buy Depo type, clear lens headlight. great,
that would update the look of car, but it will not be as
bright as your current HID system. theoretically, your HID
lighting system is about 2x brighter than a halogen based
system using the projector...as in the case with the Depo
lighting you've referenced.
they will fit your car and should be simple, drop in fit. total
time for the swap will be approx 20-30 mins fast or 60 mins
slow and careful.
but be very clear that the light output will diminish...and probably
result in poor pattern on the road. why? because Depo design
and combination of parts isn't that well advance in design. more
like the bottom of the heap. as mentioned by B above..as well
as my/other experienced, the light output is poor.
the selling point of the Depo is that they are just decent enough in
quaility that makes it a prime candidate for retrofitting and dropping
in an HID projector. this is another $200, plus $100 for D2S bulb.
you may be able to reuse your current ballast if you convert the
Depo to HID using HID projector (not reusing the halogen proj).
you cannot reuse your current bulb because it is designed for a
reflector design.
hope i made sense....am fast typing this at work. r-
Just want to add that if you OEM HID xenon, your car is likely will have headlight washer. If that's the case, the Depo headlight will not fit in, you will have to use dremel tool to cut the bottom for it to it.
And if you decide to retro the ballast at the bottom of the headlight, you might be careful, if not, you will either break the headlight washer system, or crack the light, or both.
If you have OEM HID and want to go to Depo, you really have to go the retro path. Putting xenon kit on the Depo without retro projector or lens is putting make up on a monkey, it's still a monkey . (Using that analogy, going from OEM to Depo w/o retro is like going from hot girl friend to a monkey )
At least the good news is one you replace the gut of the depo w/ an OEM kit, light quality is much better than OEM xenon.
