E320 1998 Sedan: On my right seat switch , the backrest switch does not operate. I can tilt the back rest only through the memory switches 1,2,3. The other function switches work. If I have to replace the seat switch, which is located in the door panel, how do I gain access to it. There is also a lateral airbag in that panel, right?
There is a common problem like this with the CLK w208 models and mine most of the time works, but I sometimes have to reset the seat. There is two things that I sometimes do.
1) push the seat all the way forward and hold the button forward and then push the headrest all the way down, you should then hear the seat motor click to say it's at the front of the track. Hold for about 5 seconds and this should reset the seat.
2) pull the fuse which controls the cooresponding seat and then follow the reset steps above.
If this doesn't work then you could have a bad control switch which can be accessed by taking the door panel off or you might have a bad seat motor. Instructions to get at the switch are here: Door Disassembly

Thank you, Mr.Pie. I cannot open the "door assembly" site reference you gave me. Can you help? Thank you
I can get to this site (my site) from everywhere I have tried. Maybe you hit it when I had to do some maintenance on the server or it could be my upstream router, it's been acting odd lately.
When the seat switch won't work in my w126 i'll just use compressed air in and around it and it works fine. Doubt its the motor if it moves with memory. Might just be dust/dirt. A little DIY that won't hurt to try. Good Luck!
