sirius satellite install!!!
just finished getting my sirius radio installed in my W210....
as you can see in the last pic, there's even an input for my ipod nano located on the base of the docking unit....
i used a cassette adaptor (which was fed behind the (formerly) ashtray and through the back of the head unit for a clean install) and i gotta say the sound is 500xbetter than my previous FM transmitter....
thanks AGAIN to 'zam2000' for the original idea as far as locating the satelite receiver!!!

did you have to sacrifice a connection to something else (cd player, tape, radio?) to do this installation? do you have a working cd changer in the trunk (stock)? just wondering, or did you use some sort of splitter and do you use the stock radio controls to power the unit on and off...?
Looks great. That's where I've envisioned locating a satellite receiver as well. Do you have any pictures that show how and where you hid the cassette adapter wiring. I've tried to use my ipod with one before and could never get the radio door to close completely, eliminating the beeping sound.
I'm interested in how you got around this issue. Additionally, you said that your sat receiver has a plug that you use for your ipod. That would kill two birds with one stone. Which receiver did you get?

Thanks,

the cassette adaptor wiring was simply ran INSIDE the cassette player itself and out the back....there is NOTHING coming out of the front of the cassette player.
look close at my pics...(you can see it clearly in the fourth pic) at the bottom LEFT...the input is located right on the docking station and it works PERFECTLY with my ipod....
Thanks for the info. The total install looks great. What did you use to secure the tuner in the ash tray area? I'm assuming you probably had to remove the ash tray then installed some type of mounting mechanism .
I looked at the receiver you have yesterday. Looks like a nice piece of gear. Now only if I could get it with an orange backlit display like the low end Sirius receiver has, it would look totally stock.

a basic mounting bracket was used....and yes i did have to remove the ashtray itself for the fit....
you can't get that unit with an orange backlit screen.....so be careful if you choose another unit because you need to double check the dimensions to ensure a proper fit, and you also need to verify the outputs on the unit and/or docking stand....my unit had all it's vitals located in the back, so there didn't need to be extra clearance on the sides for the plugs/wires...NOTE that many of the units have the outputs, etc. located on the sides which wouldn't bode well for this particular install....
PLUS ~ i was completely sold with the additional INPUT for my Ipod....

say you don't want XM or Sirius...what about changing the stock player for an Alpine that has MP3 cd capability and fully integrated iPod functionality?...i guess the only problem with this method is you lose the stock cd changer capability unless it can be somehow wired in differently, plus I'm sure you lose that part of the steering wheel audio controls besides maybe volume? Does anyone know for sure?
