I am currently using 235/45/17.
Can I use 225/45/17 as my winter/snow setup?

Would the sidewall be too narrow for E430 4matic?

If you want a narrower tire for winter, go with 16" winter rims & 215/55/16. Otherwise stick with 235/45/17.

225/45/17 may or may not be too narrow, depending on the width of your rim, but the overall diameter is smaller than it should be.
