Does anyone have these after market air filter like K&N or whichever is good for mercedes...I got an E320 96 year...i am not familiar with the air filters but i would like to put one in.....and also how will it work with sensors and other things...let me know if anyone had problems or if its a bad idea to change it...thank you guys
Do a search, not just here but the other forums, and you'll find that this is one of those recurring "hot button" issues.
I've been a fan of K&N filters for a long time (first started using them on motorcycles) and have had them in most of the cars I've owned (except for the cars for which the filter was worth more than the car...). IF -- and only IF -- they are properly maintained, they can be safely used in MBZ cars as well. The sensors are very sensitive so if you don't properly maintain them, you'll create other problems. I have my regular paper filter so when I do maintenance I can let the K&N thoroughly dry (that's one of the biggest problem areas) while having the use of the car.
Will you notice increased horsepower? Doubtful. Will you have superior filtration? That's one of those debated points, but one thing is for sure: if you don't properly maintain it, NO. Will you notice increased mileage? That too is doubtful; with proper maintenance I've noticed a slight increase. Will you ever have to replace your air filter? No, that's one of the reasons to use it.
Again, though, if you're lax about maintenance then do yourself a favor and FORGET it. You'll only be throwing money away and possibly doing more harm than good. If you are a fanatic about maintenance, then you'll also be cleaning out the airbox more often than if you ran paper elements, so there are some other benefits.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I'm with gregs210.FWIW There are 2 things I noticed after switching to K & N. The intake note is louder and deeper. The throttle responce seem a little better. Both are probley the result of shorting the intake.

well put it this way if you're looking for a replacement then go for the original MBZ part
but if you're aiming for performance ditch the whole box setup and do a ram-air intake setup. This makes more power and airflow is much more direct than the MB box. there's no need to worry about the MAF sensor going tits up that's because many people who have done this setup haven't noticed any signs of MAF going out on them.
Oh and forgot to tell you I have this setup if you need any help jus PM me
