Headlight harness wires are starting to burn out and the socket where you plug the headlight in is starting to corrode! I'm using PIAA extreme white bulbs...I don't know if their too hot or maybe just time to change wire's and socket.
My question is do you know where I could get a new socket/wire harness that the headlight bulb plugs into????, other than the dealer ship ???
I went to my indie guy today to have him take look at it, and they say the whole harness may need to be replaced that runs deep into the cars frame, and the job my take "20hrs labor" I think they said the "part/harness" cost about $400 or so (You can tell how much I was trying to listen) they said they would call me back and let me know if that is the case, no call as of yet.
My question is why replace the whole wire harness for the car, when only one wire looks like its burning out, where it attaches to the back of the light socket????????? What do you think?????????
I mean if worse comes to worse I would just splice the wire, and cut of the corroded part off and sudder it to the back of the socket.

That's why...happen to my friends E320 he use the same exact bulb. And yes the dealer replace the entire harness.

The PIAA is that caused your wiring to melt, they draw too much power, which heat up the wire beyond what it is designed for.
That being say, you don't need to replace the entire wiring harhness (a.k.a finance your mechanic next vacation !!). You are correct that you can simply cut & slice the wire to get rid of the damage section (inside the headlight). I'll see if I have a set around, if I do, I'll pm you. As long as all the connection is good, you should be okey.
But you must get rid of the "white" PIAA or any of the aftermarket xenon-like bulb , they run 100W instead of 55W, and adding with that "white" or "purple" look tryin to give you that xenon light impression. THEY WILL MELT YOUR ENTIRE WIRING, or THE HEADLIGHT someday.
I lean towards Zam's assessment. PIAAs are notorious for having higher wattage
in order to get the hotter look. If you still, or can get access to the package, look
at the fine print to see if this can be confirmed, ie higher power draw.
(my googling....)

The very popular Xtreme White Plus technology is now available in H7 style bulbs for your MINI. Rated at 4000K and delivering 110 watts worth of light from only 55 watts, these bulbs provide a brilliant Xtreme cool white light that will light up road hazards and street signs much more effectively than normal halogen bulbs. The bulbs are sold in pairs; 2 pair (4 bulbs) are needed to update both high and low beams. For Cooper and Cooper 'S' without Xenon lights.
chances are high that the same bulb is sold for MB's H7
Hay zam2000 I know your "The Light Man" what light would you recommend that would be safe to use other than the OEM H7's? they are not bright at all. My choices were the PIAA or SilverStars I went with the PIAA, but the SilverStars may run just as hot...any recommendations?
Also today I took a closer look, and noticed that the wires inside the light housing that connect to the light socket/bulb holder looks like it can be detached and simply plug a new wire set in.
I don't see why anyone would have to re-harness the whole system, when you could just buy the piece (if sold) that attaches/plug into the inside of the light housing.
