after owning both the M62 BMW 4.4L V8 and M119 Mercedes 4.2L V8, I don't think I can go back to the 4- or 6-cylinder cars, mostly because I love how quiet and effortless these big engines run on highway cruising. 2700rpm at 80mph is awesome. My BMW 325i with I6, while it was peppy & fun to drive w/ 5speed manual, revved at almost 4000rpm at 80mph and it annoyed the heck out of me. My s2000 revs at almost 4600rpm at 80.. lol. But the S2000 is ok cuz she can hit 9000rpm when i'm blasting through the country roads!

I don't usually compare RPM to speed, maybe because I rarely look at the speed gauge... 80 mph is about 120 km/h, so if I remember correctly, I am usually at about 2500-2700 rpm going 120 km/h. It is a 2001 E320...

I haven't lost my mind - it's backed up on a tape somewhere.
I have been driving V6 engines all my life, and the V6 in the E320 is the most amazing V6 I have seen so far. It is smooth and quiet, you don't have to wait for the power delivery, and during highway passing it can play along nicely with most mid-range V8's... JMHO...

Just came back from a drive and double checked my RPM - I am hitting 80 mph at exactly 2750 RPM every time. And looks like I was a bit off before - 80 mph is closer to 130 km/h (just below the 130 mark for those of you who care)...
