I am experiencing a rattling noise from underneath upon excellaration. I have read the boards on such a noise, and numerous posts are pointing towards the Catalytic Converters. I also read that the Cats are covered under warranty for 8 yrs/80,000 miles. I have 63,000 miles on the Odo, and the car is a 1998. If I take it to the stealership, what are y'alls opinions that the stealership won't diagnos the rattling as Cats and save themselves from making a free repair, THEN when I bring it in NOT under warranty, they diagnos it as needing the Cats afterall, hence making big bucks.
First off it sounds like it could be Cats. Second, the dealership gets paid quite well to perform warranty work by MB, almost the same as if you were paying. Third, you may already be out of the 8 year federal mandated emissions warranty with a 98 vehicle.
