I Have Another Photo Journal: Steering Wheel Removal.

My Loose Steering Column Was Driving Me Nuts, So I Pulled Up The "wis"
And Solved The Problem. Everytime You Use The Turn Signal, The Whole Column Rotates.

I Also Did The Same Procedure On The S420, To Replace The Cruise Control Arm (my Little One Tried To Make It A Gear Shifter, And Snap!!)

Please Note, The Wis Specifies Disconnecting The Battery Prior To Work. I Just Let The Car Sit, To Let Any Residual Charge In The Airbag System Dissipate.

Again, I Claim No Expertise, And Work At Your Own Risk.

Hey G-AMG, I have done the same exact procedure many of times. But, I can never get that gold cover off (the one holding the clock spring in) The screws keep slipping and there was no progress!! and never got it off!! err... is that common??

Well, I have to replace my clockspring because my horn doesnt work... and once I got the whole wheel off, I was stuck on the gold cap cover. Do you have any advice for that? Was it easy to take off on your care?

P.S. After I did all that and dissconnecting the airbag my SRS light came on. Was that the same for you? If so, how did you get it to turn off.

Actually, if you look at the procedure for the W140, it is basically the SAME thing as the W210. The "Part II" has the Combination switch.

Again, ADDENDUM/Warning: Use the T30 torx bit to remove the Airbag.

I have recently fixed the loose screw on my 98 E320 and I have found an easy way to remove the steering wheel bolt with only one person.

Open the drivers side door fully. Insert the 10mm hex with breaker bar at the 10:00 position (facing the steering wheel). Stand outside the car next to the steering wheel facing the rear of the car. Grasp the breaker bar with your right hand and the steering wheel with your left hand. Push down on the breaker bar and up on the steering wheel (similar to using two pipe wrenches with one as a back up wrench) and the bolt should break loose within seconds. If you are left handed just switch hands between the breaker bar and steering wheel.

I found that by trying to put leverage on the breaker bar while sitting in the drivers seat I couldn't get enough leverage.
