CLIC clamp removal

Time to change my fuel filter, which has the Clic clamps. How do I remove these clamps without using the Hazet tool?

I don't want to buy the tool just for this simple job. I will use jubilee clamps to re-attach the hoses.

Have you tried your local "Parts-o-rama" store? A lot of places around me in Atlanta (Autozone, AdvanceAuto, Oreilly, etc.) will loan tools for a deposit. I am sure they have something that will do the trick.

Great post. I had bit of a difficulty with the orginal hose clamps, but once I figured out that if you squeeze them a bit they spring open, it was a breeze after that.

Thanks, I gonna give it a try. Hopefully it is the same with my 1996 E320.
Just another question: what are the signs for a fuel filter to be replaced? Or can I replace it as a preventative maintenance?

Same setup on your 1996. Filter is a 60,000 mile interval, can cause idle, starting and driveability issues when it needs to be changed. When badly clogged it can cause excess backpressure that damages the fuel pump. You can change it whenever you like, autohausaz.com has them on sale right now.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Hi, life, welcome to the forum. Please click the user cp link and complete your BW profile re: vehicle and location as that is often useful information.

This forum is for the W210, and you own a W124. There may be some people here who can answer your question with detail, but you are better off posting a new thread in the W124 forum instead of hijacking someone else's thread. I'm sure the knowledgeable folks in the 124 forum can help you out.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I replaced my fuel filter today for 3 hrs. The filter has the same set up as Thread #24 above. It is on my E320/2001 wagon. I pull the fuse #6 for fuel pump from my fuse box near the battery under the rear passenger seat. Use some cloth wrap around the fuel lines from the tank and pump and clamp it with two vise grips. The fuel came out of the pressure side is about 6 OZ. I release the clic clamp by a nail pier, just squeezed the clamp, it will open up. I replace the clic clamp with fuel injection hose clamps.I purchased a box with 12 for $6 from O'Reilly. There are 6 in 16mm and 6 in 14mm. The 14mm will fit the fuel line from pump and motor. The 16mm will fit the tank fuel line. The clamp just look like the clip in the original thread picture of the Thread #3 above. Afterward, I test drive the car at 95 miles in the freeway and everything is normal.

Before I clamp the fuel hose I took out the fuss for the fuel pump. I think this is a back up to ensure the fuel is cut off even the line may not be completely clamped. I actually selected a section of straight soft section of line to set up the clamp. That way you will not break the line by the clamp. So, do not clamp the line at the loop from the pump side.
