$3 bulb I can live with that /year. Here's the interesting part, I went to a local auto parts and got the OEM bulbs in pairs. Just by looking at the bulb, it is a different type pf bulb, same watt but different design. So I went ahead and tried it. 10 mins of driving -- malfunction was gone... 20 mins later... it came back... 30 mins later, 4 malfunctions, ESP ABS came on. Good thing I was heading home.
Not only 4 malfunctions, when I step on the brakes, the right fog lights came on as well. I was like oh my that's kinda weird. I took the bulb off and put the socket back on, came back with one malfunction. So those oem bulbs are not quite the OEM. It does fit with older cars like my 190E and 300E, so that $4 isn't a waste after all.
I just purchsed 2 bulbs from the dealer this morning and so far no more malfunctions. It's all good experience. The other kicker was, I drop the bulb inside the brake tail housing. It took me 30 minutes to take it off -- sigh. Thise 4 little screws was a little pain at first.

I had a similar experience with taillight bulbs. The one at the parts store was not the same as OEM. I went to my regular indie and the service writer laughed and said, "We get that all the time. We'll take care of it." Since I go there regularly, they replaced the bulb gratis. That's good customer service.

Hello. I have a nice E320 4Matic that Ijust got a month ago with 3.2 dispalcement. I'm lovin' it. What is "Service B"?
Also, my left standing and parking lamp and right fog lights are out. Are these easy to replace? I am a techno-mechanical weenie so keep that in mind when replying.
Very Easy to replace.... Parking lights are H6W and fog lights are H1 blubs. It's in the manual if you have one. They are all easy to replace. If I can do it so you can!
This annoying contact failure problems are very common attributed to a lousy socket design or cheap material used to make the sockets. It could be their vendor problem but MBZ has full responsibility for having used it! I won't be a bit surprised if it is another part made in Turkey like 3 point Star they are buying from Turkey.
