I bought some W210 blinking mirrors (they will be installed on a W202).
And I am having a very hard time trying to remove the plastic W210 cover from the mirror "insides". As the mirror is not mounted to the car it is a bit of a task opening the mirror and trying to look with a torch to see what the hell I have to release to get the plastic casing off the mirror.
How do I do this? I can vaguely see a plastic indentation on the mirror cover which when the mirror cover is pushed back onto the mirror guts it seems the plastic indentation goes over a little piece of triangular shaped sheet metal which keeps the mirror case on so that it doesn't fall off.
I am assuming this is what I have to push down or do something to but I have no idea how to do this. I have been trying for a couple of hours now and had no luck!!!
This would be so much easier if this mirror was screwed onto the car! But it seems even that is impossible as how would I hold the mirror open to screw the mirror to the door ? lol
Yes it is the removal of the plastic housing / cover that is the problem.
My mirrors are not mounted to the car so you can see my problem is opening the mirrors to either try and mount them onto the car by using some kind of metal spanner or something to jar the mirror from closing which will allow me to screw the mirrors to the door, then I will be able to open them freely and see inside which then I can open / manipulate whatever clip I need to open to pull the plastic cover off.
Once this plastic cover is off the screws are easy, but it is this removal of the plastic cover that is very hard!
So how did everyone else who had mirrors not mounted to the car remove the plastic housing? I am thinking of wedging the mirror to the open position, which will give me access to the screws, then screw the mirror onto the door, remove the wedge and then I can see the insides to push on whatever clip I have to, to remove the plastic housing.
Was just wondering what other ways people came up with as this is a prick of a thing to remove.
ehhh, so sorry man. i was rushing to work and failed in reading comprehension.
how about screwing the mirror into a length of 2x4 or 2x8 or something? just be
careful as breaking any of the mirror guts could end up costing you a lot more
than anticipated.
hey that's cool, yeah I was thinking along those lines, like having a piece of strong sheet metal drill some holes and use nuts to pull the screws through (have to be careful of the wires and plug) and use that to pivot the mirror. but I will probably go with the wedge as it is the easiest option.

Alright mirror cover is now off! I used the middle of a pen, the steel cylinder and put the teeth on each side of the mirror housing into each side of the cylinder and wedged it open, this seems to be the easiest way! Then just pull down on the sheet metal clip and release the housing.
