Replace head unit in 1999 E-320 to get mp3 and bluetooth functions
I am looking at replacing the radio head unit in my 1999 E-320. Specifically, I want to get mp3 playback and integrated bluetooth phone functions. There are a number of receiver units available now with these functions integrated into the receiver:
Sony MEX-BT5000
Parrot Rhythm N' Blue
Pioneer DEH-P9800BT
All 3 can play mp3 CD's, with the Sony and the Pioneer allowing for ipod integration through an external adapter. The Sony unit has the microphone (for bluetooth phone connection) built into the dash unit, behind the face plate. The Parrot and Pioneer head units allow for an external microphone to be connected to the back of the unit.
I am posting to see if others have interest or comments on these three options. I am leaning towards the Sony MEX-BT5000 because it provides for the simplest installation, as I do not need to run the microphone wiring. But I am not sure if the sound pick-up will be as good on this unit because the microphone is actuallly behind the faceplate (why would Sony not put the microphone on front of the face plate????).
For the Parrot and Pioneer head units, I would need to run the microphone cable from behind the dash. Does anyone know how I can tap into the pre-wired cell phone microphone that is already in the car? This would be the best solution, if I could do that. Otherwise, does anyone have any ideas on how I should run an external microphone cabling?
Thanks for taking a look at this post.
