E320 only starts in Park the position

I have a 1996 E320 and this morning, I tried to start my car but it would not start. I thought the problem was battery, but the lights, radio, and heater all came on after I turned the key in the ignition. Anyway, I decided to put the shifter in neutral and the car started.

I turned the car off and tried to restart the car in the park but it would not start. I put the shifter in neutral and the car started with no problem.

Does anybody know what can cause this problem?

Is the Netural Safety switch expensive repair?

It is not a biggie, but is there anything cheap on MB, I would think 1hr, +part.
