99 E300 front-end acting squirrelly.. losing traction

Something is wrong with the front-end of my 99 E300. When I drive over curves in the road the car feels like it wants to get out from under me. Same thing happened today while I was driving 40mph in the rain. I felt as if I was hydroplaning! In fact, I rolled the right front tire over a man hole that was level with the road and the car slipped over it as well. When I turn sharp, the same sensation occurs. My vehicle is not pulling in any one direction while on a smooth level road and the tires are Michelin MXV4's with only about 30% wear. All 4 tires are inflated to about 36lbs.

Imagine driving a full ton pickup truck loaded with dirt. You know how the front-end feels when the back-end of the truck is loaded down? Almost as if you are floating with not a whole lot of traction at the front? That is how my benz is driving. I do notice that the space between the rear tires and the fender well are about an inch to two lower than the front. Almost as if the end is weighted down but it is not. This is not a normal characteristic of my car. Please, can someone assist with some suggestions?

drifty?

Hey switch2mac. Did you take a look at the recommended tire inflation pressure for your front tires? I have a 98 320 and the factory recommends 28lbs. front and 34 in the back. Yours may be similar, and overinflation would account for that tendency to slip! Chas.

Put the car in the air and take a good look at the front sway bar mounts. under harder driving styles the sway bar mounts can start tearing away from the cars frame. Id also check the shocks, how many miles do you have? have they ever been replaced b4? Also even though the car does not pull off trac, does not mean that the alignment is not out of spec. I say take it to a tire shop that does alignments. Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys. I replaced the shocks all the way around about 12k miles ago. I guess that I will try to align it first. Why do you think that the front end is raised up about an inch or two compared to the rear? It is very noticeable around the fender walls when viewing the vehicle from the side.

Mine was like that to, I couldn't stand it the front of the car rolled around like crazy. I had the car lowered an inch and put #1 spring pads in. Now the car is perfectly leveled. (two finger gap front and rear) looks tits

I purchased the tires from my local Benz dealer who mounted, aligned and balanced them as well. All four tires are inflated to 32lbs.
