Gas Guage stops at 3/4 full

I fill my car up until pumps stops but gas guage only shows 3/4. Do you think if I try to overfilling the tank might solve the problem? Possible by overfilling might free stuck gas guage?

Thanks

Dominic

That will NOT fix the problem..Its the Fuel level sending unit..its a KNOWN PROBLEM..

Easy to replace..make sure that you have less than 1/2 of a tank to avoid leaks
Mercedes made a Updated Fuel Level sending Unit to correct the problem

It happened to my car about more than a year ago for several months then suddenly the problem went away. During that time I topped off a little bit when filling up the tank and reseting the trip odometer to make sure to refill the tank again after every 300 miles. It was hard to know how much the gas left in the tank with a dead gas gauge. I'm still not sure if the top-off thing helped or I was just another lucky guy.

Know problem with the MB fuel sending units in the tank. I got mine replaced for free from the dealership. MB even had a class action suit against fuel companies for some of the additives ruining the fuel sending units. VW / Audi and BMW claimed the same thing. See if the dealership will fix it for you. They did mine with no question.

How long ago and where did you get yours fixed? I have a 99 E320 and usually go to MB dealer in Scottsdale.

Thanks

Bringing this back up.............

Does this go for E-Class cars also?

I top mine off and it shows 3/4.

Only thing is that when I pull up the dash info after filling it, it shows 17 gallons. Does that have to do with the bad gauge reading too?

Where is the gauge located and is it a bad gauge or bad float?

Had the same problem with the 01 E that I had. Yes, the dash readout will be affected also as its the same sending unit. As stated earlier in this thread its an easy fix and the new sending unit is updated and improved (Unless you buy one from E bay or another questionable source). Its not a big deal to replace.

Yeah, now the only problem is that the new sending unit is going for $170

Damn that's a lot of coin for a stupid float with a sender.

This worked for me...

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...l+sending+unit

Just needed a little fiddling, no need to replace it.
