Topsider Oil removal- verification

Here is one for the Benz guru's, M119 engine experts, etc.

I have been using a blue TOPSIDER oil removal pump on my 97 E420 for nearly a year. The whole process- removing oil from the dipstick opening is superior in my opinion- Here is one oddity I noticed.

http://www.evozine.com/benz/oil.ext2.jpg

-Using the topsider on my car I've noticed that it only removes a portion of the oil.
-Today after removing as much oil as could be extracted via the pump I went ahead and removed the oil plug on the oil pan. To my suprise I drained out 1 .25 quarts of oil from the bottom.

My neighbor has a early 90's 500E. When he uses the Topsider nearly all of the oil is removed. His oil pan does have a different shape; however the large amount of oil left in my pan after the Topsider extraction is odd..,

Try raise up the driver side using a jack. That should help you remove more oil.

I'm using the same topsider as yours.

Yes, as the DIY post that was done by Storm, 8.5 quarts is what I have drianed out of my 2003 E320 last night. I have the 12V battery operated topsider style that I've used before, not the same as drain plug!
