hey guys i'm faced with a really annoying problem here
my car's battery keeps dying every morning before I head off to work. when I took it to an electrician he told me the alternator was weak and it needed a new volt regulator. After I replaced the regulator he advised me to have the battery checked or replaced (despite the battery being a week old) SO I did just that and they say that the alternator is weak
my question is should I replace the alternator altogether or just get a new battery?
Well, if you think your mechanic is right and it was only voltage reg., I would just replace battery. I heard that even if new bettery gets drained few times, it will never be as new or not even close. This is my opinion only.

remove & replace your battery first before replalcng anything (ie; alternator...)

well I'll get a new battery and see wether the alternator is charging it up properly
another strange incident happened to me tonight, on my way home when I started the car the ABS and ETS lights started to come on randomly, then the headlights lost power and the stereo went off and on a couple of times, all of them went away after the drive home
You should fix the source that causes the battery drain. Looks like you have an electrical short some where that kills the battery (a new battery won't help and your old battery will be fine after a full recharge – unless it is a defected battery). The alternator should be OK because it continued generating power for the spark plugs to keep the engine running. Don’t now what to say here but just check the battery first to make sure it is not a bad one before looking at the voltage regulator. The battery is only one week old and it’s still under the warranty anyway. BTW, my car could not start yesterday and I don't know what the problem is. I hope the 6 1/2 years old battery has contributed to that problem. I will do a battery jump this morning to verify it.
thanks for the tip anyways I have managed to isolate the short circuit which originated from the FOOTWELL LIGHTS (the ones under the doors) so as a temporary precaution I managed to disconnect them and now the car starts fine with no problems at all. But it seems to me that the door sensors on the B-pillar don't seem to be working. Plus the voltage regulator already needed replacing because the old one did not regulate enough power through the alternator.
