Question 2001 E320 Rattle Sound - possible Heat Shield: Need Advise

I keep hearing this rattling sound from under my car and gets worse in gear and with the A/C on. From the research so far it sounds like the heat shield might be loose.

Does anyone have a picture of where it is located and how I can fix it?

Thanks.

Bad CATs, either one or both. There is a recall on some pof these, you may be able to get them replaced at no charge.

I called the local MB dealership and they confirmed that the E320 does not have that recall. They also mentioned that the catalytic Converter is covered for 8 years and 80,000 miles. Good information and I had no idea that we have a warranty beyond the 4 yrs.

Is there a comprehensive list of issues that are covered by the 8yr. warranty?

I've just had my wife 00E320 CAT replaced by Newport Beach, CA Fletcher Jones Motorcars (no question ask, no charge), the car had only 41M, it make rattle noise when the car running, more speed ,more rattle. They also replaced the door's seals at the same time (recall). I believe the pollution control items are 8 years or 80M warranty . Have your local MB dealer check it out. Good luck.

Exclamation Same Problem

I'm starting to here that rattle noise on my 00 E-320 as well, I thought it might be the heat sheild also. Do you guys have a recall # on the cat? or any other recent recalls #'s? and Member 00CLK208 do you have the recall # on the door sills?

I thought their was a Mercedes sight were you can check all the recalls? I have to look through my emails to see if I can find that sight...but if anyone knows of that particular Mercedes recall sight, please post. Thanks

I had harmonic balancer recall, while in the shop, they check the part # on my car, FJMotocars said, it's fine, no charge.NO I do not have the CAT recall, later the date I was back at FJMotorars again ,due to rattle when the car running, he more speed, the more rattle he CAT ,it's a bad CAT, they repaled the CAT (no charge due to CA law, the CAT is 8 years or 80M miles, it may be a federal law for the CAT warranty, if your car is within the reqrirements, they should replace with no charge ). REgards.
