The auto gearbox has just gone south in my '97 E320.What I would like to know if anyone has the information is :- will an auto box off a 2003 E320 CDi fit - is it a straight swap?I am led to believe that both cars have the 722.6 box fitted BUT can you swap boxes or is there something more deeper like reprogramming the software in the ECU as well?
The car has 151K miles with full MBSH and this will be its 3rd autobox!
What was the diagnosis that leads you to believe a new transmission is needed? Has the same shop done all the previous work? If so, it might be time to look for a new shop. In the US replacements transmissions from the dealer carry a two year unlimited mileage warranty.
Same two year warranty here in the UK - But your talking £3k+ without the torque converter + fitting (5-6 hours) at £57 per hour labour!Just been down this route and managed to source a 'minter' with only 40k miles on all in for decent money!(2000 model E320 breaker with rear end damage - box is in excellent condition!).
