I bought new tail lights of the newer style for my 1998 E320. They look really nice on it. The only problem was that the break light bulbs were not fitting in correctly. All of the other light bulbs had fit in fine. Since they were not in correctly, the lamp defective light was on and they didn't go on when you pushed the breaks.
I then had a friend go inside the car while the car was on and tap the breaks. As he tapped the breaks I fixed the right light by wiggling it around until i got it into the right place. Then I went over to the left tail light and started to do it and all of the break lights went off. Now, no matter what we do, none of the break lights work including the center one and the BASS ASR light came on. Was that because I was messing with the electrical while the car is on? What could be the problem?
Thanks to anyone that can help me and I would really appreciate immediate responses.
Actually, could it be a fuse? I cannot seem to find the fuse anywhere though if it exists. What would it be listed as in the paper? Where is it located?
Basically I have no brake lights at all (including the high level light). I dont know if it is a fuse or what, the fuse list in the fuse box doesnt have a fuse for the brake lights, so really dont know what to do. can someone please help,
thanks
Basically quoted from another topic where they didn't get the anwer either....
the brake switch goes bad as well. but changing it is easy and costs under $30. not your problem tho.
if i remember correctly, you can slightly bend the metal contact tabs on the bulb holders for a more secure contact. die-electric grease helps too, but not too much.
