New SmartKey Design

Has anyone here purchased a new smart key for their car? The reason I ask is because I was just on the mbusa.com website and noticed that the smart key has been redesiged into an even more stylish accessory. Does anyone know if this new smart key will work on our later model cars?

My first guess would be NO...

Where did you see it? What does it look like?

With my previous 2000 E320 I had a new key that was a different and nicer (longer sleeker) design than the standard key. This may be the key you are asking about, and if so would mean yes it works. My current 2002 has the regular keys.

I tried to copy and paste a picture of the key, but the site would not let me. You will have to go the site yourself and select the technology link to see a pic of the the new key.

Here is the link:

If the key electronics themselves don't work with your car, I bet you could swap the case. That key appears to be the same size/shape as the extra SmartKey that I purchased 2 years ago for my '98.

The early ('98-?) keys were big & bulky. They made the shell more compact in 2000(?).

the keyless go looks like a new technology and was launched on 2001. It is now only standard the the new Sclass 600 and optional to 2001 models, E, CL, S,

might want to call your delaer to check.

Mine didn't look like that.

If you watch the demonstration they show the ordinary key still.

My deal told me that the latest Smart Key (with new design) would work on all Mercedes that use smart key.

Will check for price, and if possible, get one for me.

Sounds like there is a pretty good chance that the new key may be able to replace our pre-existing smart keys. If anyone is able to nail down a price and has actaully used the new smart key in their car, please be sure to post so that we can contact our dealers and get one as well. Thanks

Hey Zam! Hope you are doing well. I need to order a new key this week and I would love to get the new kind of key. Can you please let me know if it work or not? Both my keys stopped unlocking the doors. Weird!
Thank you,
Mario
