Got hit with the "window regulator" first day of ownership. Kids rolled down both rear windows, only one came back up! Previous owner said he thinks it was the first time either window was ever rolled down. Kind of a bummer but this site has already been very helpful for me. Thanks!

Hi gobucks430,
Nice car! Looks a lot like the '98 E430 (they called my smoke silver when it was new) I just traded for my current '01 E320. Yours is nicer though: better condition, sport package and post-facelift.
I saw from the service history that one rear window regulator had been replaced on mine. I have even seen people advice you to never open the windows on the W210s, but I never paid much attention to that. In my 1 year of ownership, I had other problems, but that was not one of them.
Good Luck with your Benz,
M

good grief. welcome to the joys of W210 ownership. i'm still awaiting when
that's going to happen to me. whether this has any effect or not....we'll see:
after I close the windows, I 'blip' the switch down.....to take the pressure off
the regulator mechanism. why? i dunno. but after I use express UP, i noted
that there is quite a bit of pressure exerted. i mean STRONG (i tested, using
various objects). the window and door actually buckle a scootch when fully
closed.
so...believing that it really doesn't need all that stress to keep rain and noise
out, i relieve the pressure when I can. who knows if this will help those whimpy
nylon gears any. it may fail anyway. it also may prolong eventual failure.
Welcome! I own a Black 2001 E430 Sport. My rear passenger window regulator went out. I had it done from the shop since I have warranty on it. You might want to chk with ur credit union to get extended warranty on it so you dont have to worry too much abt unexpected repairs. Oh by the way chk your glove compartment, my car has an aux input, can be used with IPOD. Im not sure if there is a diff since I have the navi too but worth a look.
Sanjm23 - I will check the glove compartment this afternoon for the aux input. I do not have navi or phone. My next undertaking is the stereo. I've read well over a hundred posts on aftermarket, cd changer, fiber, VW hiring harnesses, etc. I'm not sure I still have the entire story correct. I do have the factory changer but it is too finicky on CD-R's.
Every person in my family has an iPod and the car does not have a cassette adapter for the quick and dirty solution. FM modulation in stock stereo is awful, combined with station saturation in my city. Inclination is to put in the Alpine 9857. I think all I will lose is the ability to control the change unless I run a new wire to trunk, along w/ steering wheel controls. Anyone else in this thread done something similar?

Alpine head unit
All I can contribute here is that I looked at a 2001 E430 at a dealer which had an Alpine unit in it.
I did not turn it on (to see if the steering wheel controls or CD changer worked), but it looks like you are not the only one that has considered this upgrade.
