How many of you here own W210s w/ more than 100K miles? 150k? Please share your ownership experience after 100k.
I'm looking at a 1997 E420 w/ 105k miles, and am seriously debating whether I am just throwing my $$ away if I buy this car.
I thought a German-engineered W210 can last 200K+ miles with regular maintenance, but it seems like these cars need a new part & require dealer service every 3 months.
98 E320. 150K mile. Very few thing go wrong (oil change and that's all). Replaced harmonic balancer and MAF some years ago. For the W210, there're three part that's known to break: window regulator, MAF, and harmonic balancer. None is a wallet buster.
Last week, the trans stop shifting, and have to have the trans rebuilt. That's a wallet buster . Just got it back last night.

My wife drives a 97 E420 and has about 155k miles on it. We needed a MAF sensor and that's about it. Right now it's getting close for the A/C to be recharged, other than that it's great and runs like a horse.
I started a thread about 9 months ago re parts that we, the E320 community, have replaced. Not many people volunteered their experiences, but it does show a few more items of interest.
Bottom line, the cars do like to visit the dealer (or do it yourself). They will last a long time, but be prepared to do the maintenance & repairs.

I am going on 120K on my 96. It has only been to the dealership once in the past 2 years and that was because a detail shop soaked the engine causing misfires. They paid for that visit. I replaced both the rear window regulators on my own and changed the battery recently. At 100K I replaced the water pump when it started leaking.

'97 e420 sport with 115k. Runs like 15k, shifts like a dream. Original tranny. Only thing that has had to be replaced is MAF sensor also and both sides of cam oilers (that lubricate the lifters) and a few cosmetic parts that are common on a near 10 year old car. I've heard these engines are strong and will go along time, this is why I purchased my car.
