i have just bought our 2nd e 230 1996 model and it starts up fine even if a little lumpy, and she will idle fine but when floored it splutters and will only rev up to around 3500rpm and then it fluctuates between 3500-3800 with the foot flat down !! i noticed whilst driving that it wasnt as spritely as it should be. any ideas ?? oh and sorry how do you turn off the ets/abs lights on the dash and is it an abs wheel sensor that needs replacing ? cheers for any help and once again, sorry for it being a problem question ! ps , i had no idea there was a merc forum !

.There is a long list of what it could be,start with what you know is not working right(ETS/ABS) and then start simple.It may be woth having any fault codes read form the car's brain.When cars sputter and have poor throttle responce I think of fuel system(filters,injectors),or the need for a tune up.Replacing filters and cleaning injectors(not with addatives),and even a tune up do not cost alot.athey are routine things that tend to get over looked when some one thinks about selling a car.
