Too much refrigerant will also kill the performance, so perhaps that was the problem. I've removed the stuff before by chilling a partially-full can and connecting it to the low-side of the non-running system.

I would be concerned about the E message on #7. It would seem likely that the sending unit is bad. Unfortunately, replacing this requires that the system be evacuated.

thanks for the help. Like I said, it seems to be cooling right now. I'll take it to my mechanic Monday. Frustrates me when I can't fix something LOL. At this point, I know my limits though.

FF means that you've seen all the codes. You don't have any.

I used the diagnostic tool and received the error B1232. This sensor measures the pressure of refrigerant in the a/c system. I was also instructed to override it so the a/c can possibly work. The question is how do I override the sensor?

Thanks and by the way it is 88 degrees outside would love to get this resolved.

Michael

A/C Problem fixed

Well, after taking it to an indep. shop, found out that the belt that runs the passive fan jumped off the auxiliary fan motor, wrapped itself around the motor and shorted the motor out. When this happened, it also shorted out the control module by the under-hood, fuse box. $899.62 later I can make ice cubes on my dash going down the road. My garage charges $45/hour labor - the dealership charges $110.00. I could have purchased the aux fan for $231 from Autohauz, but didn't need to wait on shipping so I sucked it up and paid the $388 the dealership charged.

That's quite a bill, but at least it works now.

Whenever I have the hood open on my car, I turn the left-side fan by hand to ensure that it is free, and that the right-side also turns with it. You now know why I do this.

Can you post the part number of the control module that was replaced?

Now you know why I'll start checking the fan on the left when my hood is up! I bought the car last November. It may have been like this since I bought it and just hasn't been hot enough to effect the engine temp. I bought it from some friends (original owners). When they were very disturbed by the news. They have offered to pay for 1/2 the bill.

I will post the part number when I pick the car up.

Sorry for the slow response. I had to break out the climate-control manual for this one, as I can never recall the version codes. BE SURE to write them down before making any changes.

Version Coding:
Programming
1. Turn ignition ON
2. Left side "HI", right side "LO".
3. Turn ignition OFF
4. Press REST and turn ignition ON simultaneously:
"P1" flashes in left side of display window (value 1), right side of display window: (e.g.) "03".
5. Press the right temperature selector (blue = <; red = >).
6. To enter value 1, press EC >1sec.
7. To access value 2, press EC:
"P2" flashes (cycle of 1 Hz) in left side of display window (value 2). Right side of window: (e.g.) "02".
8. Press the right temperature selector (blue = <; red = >).
9. to enter (value 2) press EC >1sec.
10. Turn ignition OFF: A/C (i.e. A/C pushbutton control module [N22]) returns to normal operation.
11. Reset right and left temperature selectors to normal settings.

1. Numerical value
00 - Serial interface K1
08 - Serial interface K1 and K2 (M.Y. 1997)
32 - Auxiliary fan not available as of (M.Y. 1997)

2. Numerical value
00 - engine version over CAN from instrument cluster (as of M.Y. 1997)
08 - Blower motor bar graph switched on by AUTO
16 - Refrigerant fill level check switched off
128 - SMOG display switched off
