I have a set of Xenon headlamps that I am going change out with the OEM Lights. Just needed to know if these are Plug and Play items. I have also relized that there is an additional connector on the Xenon headlamps, but, from what ive heard, I dont need to connect that because thats for self leveling. I have also heard that after i hook up the lights, i might need to take the car to the dealer in order to enable HID lamp "on".
Could somebody please verify this info with me?? Thanks in advance!!
I got PM from you, so figure I just answer it here. On the xenon headlight unit, there are two plug. Just plug in the top one (the one with four pins). That should be enought for the headlight & high beam & driving light.
The other plug/connector is for auto-leveling. Your car doesn't have that. Just adjust the beam even to the ground, you'll be all set. You can not retrofit the auto-level into your car.
On the 98 W210, you don't have to reprogram the computer to recognize xenon, everything should be plug and play, and you will not have any error message.

Zam: I just installed a set of "gently-used" OEM Hella Xenons in my 1998 E320. When I turn on the lights they work just fine. But when I turn on the engine AND the lights I get a "defective lamp" warning light.
I have rechecked my install and everything looks A-OK. Mine is a late production 1998 E320.
I am taking it to the dealer to check the programming.
