First of all Thanks in advance for looking at this.
I have a '99 W210. 3.2
Recently I have had problems with acceleration and loss of power.....
Basically......
I start driving as normal all is fine, if I accelerate quickly the car kicks down a gear and responded as you would expect. FINE. But then when I continue with my journey the does not allow me to kick down gears and accelerate quickly....
At first I thought it might be in limp mode or something but was advised it will only
Go to third or second gear if that was the case. But in my case it changes gear as normal and goes to forth as expected.
When I stop and turn off the car and start off again it’s the same again starts off normal
For a mile or two later it losses power again.
I have been told it might be the Inlet Port Shut Off Motor?????
(What does this do???)
or
The Air Flow Sensor???? I replaced the air flow sensor but still the same.
I had the same fault come up on Star Diagnosis for my 2000 E220 CDI W210 over the weekend. The fault came up as " Inlet port shutoff motor 1189-016 ". Did you get more details as to what the function of this motor is? How much was it? etc.

I've been experiencing this problem also. It seems to happen within the first 10 minutes when I have started the car and when I'm travelling at a low speed. It happens once a week.
Hi PeteK, I was going to post the exact same problem before I did some research and came along your post.
I have a 2001 E220 CDI Automatic and it suffers from pretty much what you mentioned. Gears change all the way but the RPM hardly goes above the 2000 range hence extreme loss of power. But as soon as I turn off the car and start it back the problem is gone ....
PeteK has a gasoline engine and you have a diesel so maybe his fix was different than yours will be. I would start by having your codes read.
Actually, petek's is a 320 CDI.
That said, resurrecting old threads to ask the OP what's up may not often yield the best results. Some of us are here lots, others come in, get a fix and take off.
Nevertheless, I'd agree with MM: have the codes read. Check to see if you have an OBD II port if so buy a basic code reader, if not run it in to the shop and have them connected it up and run diagnostics.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Oops, I see that now, my bad. I did notice, but neglected to mention, that petek's last post was 1-30-2007 At least Ahtasham knows what the search function can "dig up".
