hey guys my name is julian and i have been looking at buying a e320, now i have found a few in my area and the one i am looking at is a 97 with about 92K miles on it. what i wanted to ask is how reliable are these cars motor, trans all that stuff. i have been mostly into japanese cars but i need a good highway cruiser because of all the traveling i will do. any info you can give me would be appreciated. thanks.
Julian,if you have been driving Japanese cars,I am not sure you want MBZ E320! You might have to be ready to spend extra buck on upkeep!
If you decide to buy one, do try to visit this site often. There are some good people here who would go extra miles to help you out when you have problems
well maintenance is not a problem, what i want to know is if the car in whole has any weaknesses, like i read the the c-class has trans roubles and so on. i want a car that will give me at least 200,000 trouble free miles other then the smaller things, you know alternators, fluids, brakes and so on.
If you are willing to spend few more bucks, I would look into 2001 model. Compare features in '97 and 2001. 2001 is most likely more reliable as well. Why go that far back?
well the 01 is about 3 times as expensive as i can get the 97 for, and also i tend to like a straight 6 over the v6. but that does not matter much anymore, i have been reading about them and i have decided not to buy one anymore, thanks anyway. i am looking to infinity and lexus.
Transmissions have been indicated as a problem on this model. Same with rust (including the spring perch) sunroofs, window regulators, air conditioners, MAF's and a few other things that escape me right now. Some seem minor until you have to fix them and they can add up quickly especially if you're not doing the labor. The Japanese car you're driving will unquestionably be more reliable in the long run. If you need something bigger for the road, a Camry or Corolla may suit you better.
