I have searched other threads but did not seem to find my specific situation. About once every 6 months when I go to start my car, it will crank and actually run for 0.5 seconds, then just die. You can keep doing this several times with the same results. If you wait for 10-15 minutes, it will start fine and the problem will not come back for maybe 6 months. I have a new battery and problem occurred even before battery was replaced. Any ideas would be appreciated.
There are many threads on your type of problem, My '99' 320 started having a similar problem. then it progressively got worse. I changed CPS, MAF, etc. Finally I took it to the dealer and the Tech. found a faulty intermitent relay to the fuel pump. Luckily it did'nt start for him so he pushed it onto lift and found no voltage to fuel pump, then traced it to the relay. My excellant indy shop could'nt fix it even with many visits.
CARVER, regarding your problem, did your car actually start? My car will crank then run for 0.5 seconds. Since your problem was the fuel pump relay, I was wondering if no fuel was getting to the cylinders at all for you, was your car actually running at all during the problem OR just cranking?
It all began as very intermitent, ran great after purchase, then once a month or so it would crank, catch, then die. After repeated restarts it would run fine. 6 months and it happened more frequently, indy mech. and DIY did'nt solve or help. then every day or so would not catch at all only crank. thus off to dealer and fixed 1st and only visit....
