E200T, W210 Series, 1997, 50% Electrics Failure

Hi Guys, I'm James from England - in my late 70's and feeling very, very sick!! [:(]

Bought E200T, 1997, W210,(StationWagon) last year,
on 'EBAY' (Biggest mistake of my life) [:(!]
and have had dire problems ever since...

Been in industrial electronics all my life, but this one has me stumped... [?]

Last week, noticed that the indicator lamps did not flash when unlocking /locking the car - but the central locking system opened /locked all doors and tailgate.

The car started OK - Instrument Cluster background lighting worked and SRS indicator lamp showed On/Off
as normal -

BUT,
NO watertemp/ fuel/ speedometer/ rev counter gauges
or any of the small indicators/ charge/ bulb failure/
hi-beam / brakes, etc. etc.

No hazard flashers, windscreen wipers or water jets,
No direction left/right indicators / or small side lamp indicators.
No horn.
No interior heater Fan
----------------------------
Still WORKING OK are:

Headlamps /Hi-Lo beam, dipping and flash, OK
Rear lamps/stoplamps/ reversing /foglamps, OK
All interior lamps / fade down and off, OK
Adjust wing mirrors/ Radio/ cigarlighter, OK
Slide/tilt sunroof, doorwindows up/down, OK

Starter/ alternator/ battery charging, OK

Car starts normally, BUT, gearbox changes feel different - car normally coasts down hills smoothly
BUT NOW car slows when throttle pedal is released and car slows down similar to a manual gearbox car with engine braking effect.

I've triple checked every fuse in the four fusebox, both for voltage continuity in-situ and individually
for resistance continuity when out of fuseboxes.
Also, checked relay in fuse cluster in battery compartment under rear seat. OK

It would seem perhaps a relay has failed but they are difficult to locate and lack of wiring diagram makes it almost impossible to trace circuitry.

-------------------------------
At this stage I'm baffled and have serious problems to get the car to the nearest Merc service dealers,
(about 15 miles away)

1/ I could drive the car - But with NO indicators, horn, hazard flasher, windscreenwiper or speedometer,
is both Foolish and Illegal - and I could land up in serious trouble in more ways than one !!!

2/ Official Merc service over here equates to some
$200 per hour - And Senior Citizen State Pension over here is less than that per week !

-------------------------------
Gentlemen, I would seriously welcome any positive indication or inspired guesses of where to look for possible source of the problem.

Thank you all for reading this far,

Jim Steadman

RE: E200T, W210 Series, 1997, 50% Electrics Failure

From Jim Steadman:
Gentlemen, I omitted a postscript to the above posting - Last year, shortly after aquiring the car from a Charleton on EBAY (who has now been banned)

I joined this forum and posted a request for information which included changing the clock display
bulb - several kind Folk replied with positive information - unfortunately my laptop was stolen
and all my contacts and references went with it.

To the Gentlemen who replied:
I Belatedly Thank You All for Your Courtesy...
