E320 or C240

I am looking at either a 1999 Silver E320 4Matic or a 2002 black C240, the cars have similar amount of miles. Price is relatively the same, so which one do i go with?

Hey, Skyman.

If you search in the general, this and C forums you'll see several threads with this basic theme.

Personally I'd pick the E. More features/luxury, more power, smoother engine, similar fuel economy, nicer car all around.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I'm going to agree with gregs210; I'd take an E over a C based on the heavier ride and feel. The E-Class just feels more substantial to me...

RE: E320 or C240

The E Class is further down the depreciation slide and gnerally will hold it's value better than a C class.

The C is quite a bit newer.

With mileage and care ( service records? anyone?) about the same, I'd go for the driving feel.

Do you prefer the bigger feel? or the more nimble feel?

It's a long term close relationship you're entering -- put that kind of thought into it.

Two different cars. I own a 1998 E320 sedan and 2002 C320 wagon.

Both are very different cars, with distinct personalities. The C series (even in wagon trim, is sportier). The E series is more sedate.

I've driven loaner C240's from the dealer (2005 models) and I prfer the C320. The engine in the C320 is bigger and more powerful. Also, the C320 comes with more luxury features as standard equipment than the C240 does.

The back seat of the C series is a bit tight in room. If you plan to drive with back seat passengers (unless they are small kids) I'd look at the bigger E class cars.

Both are Mercedes, so no matter what you chose, you'll still come out a winner. [:D]

RE: E320 or C240

Having driven a C240 several times I would say that it is my least favorite product that Mercedes makes. The engine is so under powered and disapointing. I would get the E-Class with no question. It would at least have to be a C320 for me to even think about the choice.

RE: E320 or C240

Having owned both, I would go for the E-Class, but I would try to get a 2000+ model as this was the year of the facelift.

The E suits a family more as it is larger and heavier. The ride is better and overall I think it is the better car.

The C240 was fun, but lacked a lot of rear seat room. It is also smaller in the front and didn't have a great deal of power.

Both are great cars so determine how long you plan to keep it, where you are in your life (married, kids, having kids, dogs, etc.) and pick accordingly. Either will be great.

definitely e 320 - it is a facelift model which looks very very nice. Engine is well ĆĆĆĆĆĆ - high power and not very high consumption

A 1999 E Class is still the older model in the US and Canada.

We didn't get the facelift model until MY2000. We are usually 6 months to a year behind the rest of the world (ROW).

I'd get the E320 4Matic hands down. You'll love the AWD in the winter...
