Bank 2 / Bank 1 Question

OK, this is now puzzling me.

Which one is Bank 1 and which one is Bank 2?

I've read some posts that indicate that Bank 1 is on the right side (passenger side) and Bank 2 on the left (driver's). Other posts say the opposite is true.

So which one is which?

BTW, this question relates to the location of the O2 sensor, as in Bank 1/Sensor 1 or 2 or Bank 2/Sensor 1 or 2.

Thanks for the info.

RE: Bank 2 / Bank 1 Question

Read the thread
Bank 2: right or left?

You´ll find the answer as I did.

Bank 1 refers to the bank to which cylinder number 1 belongs.
In V6 or V8 engines in MB this is the right (passenger) side.

MB names the cyl 1,2,3,4 in one bank and 5,6,7,8 in the other, while some manufacturers name the banks different.
GM uses 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8 beeing number 1 in the left side, so for GM Bank 1 is on the left side and bank two on the right. Honda also uses odd and even on each side, but I don´t know what side is for each.

RE: Bank 2 / Bank 1 Question

Rafael, this is what I posted onyour thread:

>>>Holy mackerel...

Sagrada sardina!

Those are the same codes my car (a 1998 E320) pulled and the mechanic changed the after-cat RIGHT O2 sensor!!!

How could an experienced Benz mechanic (my mechanic) make that mistake. Is your mechanic experienced?

There is something fishy here....

I wish others would pipe in.<<<

I still have a hard time believing that two Benz mechanics would make the same mistake.

Anyone else experience the same situation?
