I've been interested in purchasing some projector headlamps for a while now, could you guys show me which brand to buy? I want a QUALITY product so what do you think? How do you think the black ones would look? Pictures would be nice too. thanks

Oh ya, I have factory H.I.D's too.

Sandro:
if you already have factory HIDs, why in heaven's name
would you consider halogen? or, are you saying you're
trying to switch from factory fluted lens HID....over
to clear lens, but with HID?

RE: Projector lense types

p.s. search this forum using the word "projector"
which should reveal much discussion over the past
year. yes, it's a lot of reading, but important stuff,
too.

RE: Projector lense types

Yo ray, I do not want to switch into halogen bulbs. I do want the projector beam head lamps though. This forum has a vast amount of info about these lights thats been very useful. I'd like to see some photos of the different types of brands on the car. My car is black so I thought maybe the black housing projectors would look cool, but I could be wrong.
Also, Im still a little confused about having to replace the lenses for the E55 lense?

Zam 2000 if your still out there, let me know. Apparently your the man to talk to around here. thanks guys

RE: Projector lense types

of the photos you posted above, the middle one seems
best suited to a HID retrofit. the other one(s) seem
to have exposed rear housings, whereas the middle (Depo)
has an enclosed hatch. this is important as once the
HID projector is fitted, the back hatch encloses this
new unit in water resistant fashion. the others will
not and you'll have to fabricate an enclosure.

Zam has already indicated that the top unit is poorly
made. With his help, I dropped E55 bowl/lens into the
Depo last Summer.

RE: Projector lense types

Everything you listed above are Eagle Eyes light, completely junk in quality. The middleone is the Eagle version that copies the Depo one.

With the Depo, the light quality is still bad, but at least the rest are built nicely. And if you upgrade lens/projector, you will have what's better than OEM light.

You can get them from AutoDynamic for around $379 + tax, they're in El Monte, not far from your place. They're distributor of Depo products in the US.

If you want to, I can get you for $379 + gas money, since I don't have to pay tax when I buy stuffs from these guy (I bought close to 40 pairs from them last year :-)), you can just come to my place and pick it up.

Lens upgrade is doable, either you or myself can do it. Xenon upgrade is heaven

RE: Projector lense types

Hey Zam, those projectors look great. Im partial to the black housing ones pictured in the middle though, because my car is black. Does the Depo brand make a black version? Also whats the deal with having to purchase the E55 projector lense? What extra costs am i in for here?

RE: Projector lense types

I thought about doing this swap as I have factory HID, but would like the bixenon that I had in the ML.

The problem is that none of the current aftermarket projector headlights have provisions for automatic headlight levelling. They are all manual levelled.

I wasn't willing to give this up, so stock for me.
