Hi guys I have been a long time Mercedes enthusiast. I spit on my friends who drive Lexus'. I just got my 2000 E430 last week and was just hoping to do a few small modifications and ask a few questions.
1. I researched a little bit regarding an easy entry/exit feature on the car and i guess it went into the 2001 model. Is there anyway that a dealership technician can activate that feature on my car?
2. I looked up changing to black emblems, and i guess i have to remove my current emblems and repaint them. Is dental floss the best way to take them off? And what kind of paint do i use to color them black?
3. I know that the one-touch sunroof went into the 2001 models, can a dealership technician program my car to do that?
I would really appreciate your input, this forum seems to pretty knowledgeable.
There was no easy entrance/exit in the 01 that I had. As far as the one touch sun roof goes its lots more than programming. Would be expensive and difficult to retrofit.
Welcome to the MB forums, nycwhip (cool handle) Since you're in NYC,I can turn you on to a few spots: Miracle Motors in Queens on Liberty Avenue off the Van Wick Expressway, ask for Shelton,They're Old School Mechanics that are pretty reasonable for Mercedes. If you ever need your rims straightened (and you will) behind the F'ed up city streets,go to Pacific
just before Classon Avenue in Brooklyn on your left hand side, there are my rim straightening guys. They charge $60 per rim,way better than the jerk who wanted as much as I paid for my rims out here in Jersey. Lastly,www.thebenzbin.com has MB parts reasonable for the window regulator and other parts we all need eventually. Good Luck ,we here drive the best but truthfully, the cars are only as good as the imperfect humans that build them.
PS,don't forget Ebay....[:p]

Regarding painting your emblems, consider removing it altogether. Remove the E430 emblem and leave the star. After all, this a very clean and elegant look and the way you see them in their home land.
Most Benzes sold in Germany and Western Europe do not have the model designation badge. Actually, it's a factory no-cost option, Code 260, not offered in the US.
Hope it helps.
Cheers.
