320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

I Have a E280 4 matic and my garage has a 320 4matic model full options (xenon, electric seats,...)

They are quite the same (only 15 days difference!!!), color,equipments,...

do you think it is necessary to change from my 280 to the 320 model ?

I guess depending on how much snow you have, the extra power in the 320 may be worth it.

RE: 320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

I'm leaving in the geneva place in where snow comes from november until march. Does it mean I will feel with the E320 less security than the 280 one ?

Nota bene : I've got the winter tyres during all that period (vredestein wintrac).

Thanks for your answer

RE: 320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

We only get the 320s and 430s with 4matics here in the US, so I really cannot say anything specific to the 280. I think as long as you've got a good set of winter tires, the upgrade to the 320 will only serve to give you better acceleration (which isn't honestly even that useful in the snow). If you have the money and want a car with more power and what sounds like more luxury features, then go for it, but for winter handling I doubt you'll see much difference.

RE: 320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

Having had both a 320 (albeit a bit tuned) and a 280 version of the W210 I can say without a doubt that the 320 is ALOT faster off the line and through the gears and the difference in fuel economy to the 280 is near to none. If you don't have to pay alot more for the 320 I'd say go for it instead of the 280 (it's a bit sluggish).

Say hi to Geneve from me (and try to aviod going under the bridges [;)])

RE: 320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

Thanks for all your answers. I read a lot of experiences from you, unfortunatelly the kind of website do not exist yet in Europe with such a big choice (models, topics)

About the E320, do you have the details specifications such as engine, speed, 0-100 km/h (more or less 0-60 m/h),... or personnal website for example

Thanks in advance

Hey, scaz.

I side with Storm, if they're comparable in cost and you can afford it, you won't regret the extra .4L. You didn't mention model years, in 1998 MBZ went from the I6 3.2 to the V6 3.2 and they are quite different aside from basic architecture.

Can you get to www.cars.com? They have an excellent research tool that will open the door to all of the basics.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

RE: 320 4matic. Is it really better than 280 4matic ?

Thanks for your piece of advice. I have to take a ride on saturday to take my decision. I will go to the garage with my wife (she drives the MB more than me)

About the model, it is a V6 year 99 (just 2 months before the new style!!!) with 133 000 km (83 000 miles), mine is 160 000 km.

I'll keep in touch, and see your website you've proposed to me to see.

Best regards
