60,000 Mile service

My MY 2000 E 320 will soon be hitting 60,000 miles mark. My service advisor has been telling me for some time that 60,000 service is fairly expensive (Approx. $ 800-900).

Has anybody on this forum gone through 60,000 service ?. If so, can you please advise on this. Should I go with the dealer or look for outside shop.

What is so special at this service (Spark Plugs + Oil/filter+Carbon filter+???????) to cause the bill to be $ 800-$900

Any guidance will be much appreciated

RE: 60,000 Mile service

The owner's manual lists what needs to be done at 60,000 miles. There is also a time limit on others things like brake fluid and coolant that might be coming due too.

RE: 60,000 Mile service

My advisor has told me that the spark plugs on my 01 E430 cost 500-600 to change. He says that the 8 cyl engine has 16 plugs and that they are hard to get too so there is a lot of labor involved. Not sure if everything he said was true (my car just had the 50K service) but that is prob. where the cost if from. Not sure about the 6cyl but it sounds like the same thing.

RE: 60,000 Mile service

If I were you I would pay to have the tranny fuild changed even if it is with your local mechanic. Just make sure it is OEM MB tranny fluid (nothing else)
MB will say the tranny fluid is lifetime (100K) but there is no such thing.
My tranny blew up at 70k and cost $5000 and the oil was chunky and black, not red like when it is new.
Do your self a favor and change the fluid.
Good luck
Mario

RE: 60,000 Mile service

I notice some people are changing their spark plugs at 60,000, my question is don't we all have the 100,000 mile spark plugs? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I am close to you here in Louisville KY. I am a MB technician. I will do work at home for discounted rates.
There is no set 60k service on your car. it is a flex service car and all items are kind of alacart.
If no major service has been done, it will need.
engine air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake flush, coolant flush, charcoal filters,
flex b(dus filter, wiper, oil and filter, tire rotation and check EVERYTHING on the car)
Please let me know if you are interested in having me do this.

Is it a simply drain and change or do 'things need to be drilled open', etc.?
