stock 16" CLK wheels and 17" chrome sport E wheels

posted in w208, w210 and tire sections:

My wife is killing me. She has a 2000 E430 with the stock 17" sport wheels which are chrome. I have a 2001 CLK320 with the stock 16" wheels. My question is, can I swap the wheels and tires from one car to the other? She has destroyed her second wheel in 4 months due to the low profile tire on the 17" rim because she doesn't pay attention to potholes and the railroad tracks. Thanks in advance.

The W210 and W208 share the same bolt pattern, lug type, and approximate offset requirements.

The 17" E-class wheels will fit on your CLK.

You might have brake clearnace problems fitting the 16" CLK wheels on the 2000 E430 Sport. Tire Rack doesn't show any 16" wheels that fit the 2000 E430 Sport on the wheel selector, but they do show compatible 16" wheels when you search for winter wheel/tire packages.

What tire pressures have you been running in your wife's E? It's much easier to flatten a tire or bend a rim with underinflated tires. I run 35 psi front, 32 psi rear.

I think you're 95% good to go. Were it I, I'd swap the fronts first -- just for that other 5% to make sure it's all clear -- and then enjoy the results. Do make sure you swap the lug bolts too (i.e., they should stay with the wheel, not with the car).

If I was up for a road trip I'd even come help. :)

Take care and enjoy the rides,
Greg

Thanks for the help guys. I try and keep the psi up around 35, but seeing this is my wife's car and I don't have the time to make sure it's kept up every week I have to rely on her to make sure that the pressure is right. The line she got feed at the tire shop was the valve stem was leaking and the usual, "these are chrome wheels so they will some times have a small leak anyway because of how they where chromed"

I might just leave it as is, because I don't think the E Sport wheels will look good on the CLK.

Thanks again
