Ok Guys I'll start this thread. Several months ago I bought Pirelli P Zero M&S (235/40/18 and 275/35/18) for my E. Originally I thought these tires were the greatest ever. They were so quiet and smooth I just could'nt believe it. Handling was good too, very responsive and not too much side roll.
Now after putting about 16,000 miles on them its a total different story. First of all their completely bald and slipery. Second, their unbelievably loud (Plus I have the entire car insulated with dynamat extreem) Last and worst of all; these tires wont balance for shit! I cant even enjoy the wonderful car that I bought because anytime I open the throttle the damb car starts wobbling all over. It's horrific, even when the tires were new, the balance was still awful.
What I want to know from you guys is what types of tire's are you guys using and how do they compare[?] Also how many miles do you guys usually get out of you tires[?] I could have sworn that I got conciderably more miles out of my last set of Dunlop 7000's.
I´m using Michelin Pilot Sport II. 200 miles now.
They´re great. But look like "used" by the side even when tey´re new because don´t have "sharp edges" but rather rounded. Other than that, superb tires.

Just put on 4 Continental ContiExtremeContact Tires 2 weeks ago.
So far they've been quiet and smooth. They handle real well on tight turns and work hand in glove with the car's suspension. Time will tell, but so far they've exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them. I paid $605 for all four. Probably could have got a better deal off the internet, but they're Z rated and have a very good reputation.
I just put on Dunlop SP Sport FM901 about 150 miles ago. I wouldn't recommend these they are loud as hell especially at high speeds. It sounds like I have monster truck tires on my car.
I've got Yokahama AVS ES100's (18") on my E 420 and they are suberb. Of course, they wear fast - but that's what you get with a V, W, or Z rated tire of any manufacturer. I've got Yokahamas on my Lotus and Jeep too. Try 'em you'll like 'em.
I had the Conti Extreme Contact. They were very nice... while they lasted, which wasn't much. I barely got 25k miles.
I now have the P Zero Nero and like them a lot. I only have about 8k miles on them, but they are quiet, handle very well, and by comparison (to the Conti), the wear looks way better.
As far as balance problems: none.
You say the balance was bad since they were new? Maybe you got a bad batch?
I've heard great things about the Khumo Ecsta and may try those on my next set.
Goodyear Eagle F1's I have had them for a few hundred miles and there awesome. I have had almost everybrand and make of tires on my previous cars and i think so far eagle f1's are the best!
Well, I'll tell you what is NOT hot. First my originals lasted for 76,000 miles, with careful driving and regular rotation. One of the tires actually blew when I ran over a sharp object around 60,000 miles on the odometer. I think I had all tires ballanced once or twice in the time I had them. I then bought a new set of 60,000 miler 215/60R/16 Goodyears with life-time rotation and road hazard insurance from WALMART, for $351.72! That was for four tires! They are a bit larger and the engine turns about 4.5% slower for the same speeds, which is alright with me also. In order to last 60,000 miles as advertised the rubber has to be a little harder. I also run them at 32 PSI pressure and I never drive faster than 80 mph, so why pay for 130 mph high performance tires, if you will never use them as such? The tire wear and noise you experienced with your fancy tires is normal for such tires. Our police department uses such tires so they can do high speed chases and wild cornering if they have to. Their tires last 12,000 miles, that's it! They can do it because we, as taxpayers, are footing the bill. So can you, if you have lots of money. :-)
