Lifters Ticking? Engine Sound?

I have searched around, but I want to ask my own question. I have a 99 E320 with 63,000 miles. My engine seems to be making some ticking noises and I cant figure out what it could be. I hear it a lot in the morning when I start up, also throughout the day. When I pull up to a drive-thru, I can hear some weird engine sounds like ticking reflecting off the walls. I only use the highest grade of gas and oil. Any suggestions or inputs? I would love my engine to sound flawless and new. Please Help!![:(]

It sounds like oil is not flowing into valve area. I don't think it is valve tapping sound.

I just had this problem at 66000 miles with 97 E420

Think you might have the same.

RE: Lifters Ticking? Engine Sound?

Yea but I pretty sure I have good oil pressure, and I sure its flowing ok. I just had the car looked at by the dealer not too long ago for a water pump issue, and I asked them to check it all over. But then again, maybe I had to be specific and ask about that ticking sound? Its really annoying, sometimes I almost feel like its sounds like a diesel!

RE: Lifters Ticking? Engine Sound?

1999 E320 M112 engine
Lifter problems not very common from what I have seen.
I would check the belt tensioner maybe its rattling this happens sometimes even when the belt is tight. You could remove it and run the engine shortly to see if the noise is gone,if so you know at least your noise is from something in the belt drive. Could also try pressing on the tensioner if your carefull with something like a long screw driver and even listen to the end of it(the screwdrver handle) for the noise......my thoughts
hope this helps

RE: Lifters Ticking? Engine Sound?

I had this prob on a 97 e420 at 99K.. it was a clogged oil spray bar/tube (sic) above the valves. Cost a grand to fix.. luckily on extended warranty.
