98 E300D engine stops running 4 minutes after startup if its cold

98 E300D has cut out twice when driving away a couple of minutes after start up and its below 80 deg Celcius.

It sounds like the ECU not giving the engine enough fuel if the engines cold but the engine shouldn't stop running altogether should it?

First thought was fuel fitler then glow plugs (it has 121k on it now).

Is there a fuel sender that has to be cleaned after so many miles?

Thanx
