What to do: SC a 98 or buy a 2003?

Is there any logic to this thinking:
I would love to get a new E55AMG but hate the retail price and frankly like the previous body better.
I had a 97 and was extremely impressed, what a car!
I understand that the aftermarket tuners only have turbos for the 98 and up model.
Would it make sense to buy a 98 at a very good price and have a supercharger slapped on by Renntech or somone else rather than going into hock big time with a new or slightly used model?
What to do....

You can buy a used E55 for around $20,000 and slap on a $10,000 HPS supercharger system. The 210 E55 with the blower will out accelerate the 211 E55. I guess your decision would depend on your budget. Do you have $60,000 + to spend on a used 211 E55? If not, supercharging the 210 E55 may be a good option.

From a dollar point of view, the slightly used E55 will give to best return on your money downstream. In addition, the parts are all balanced and tuned to each other.

If you purchase an older W210 and add a blower, you will introduce stresses into a complete "system" which has been accustomed to different loads.

The car is strong and probably can take it, but keep it in mind.

Most if not all of the dollars to put into this "upgrade" will be difficult if not impossible to recover at the time of sale.

The only tempting part I see is that you can buy your way into the higher performance on the "installment plan" -- if that is tempting.

Good luck.
