The Depo projectors on my 97 E420 have not had a moisture problem yet, have had them about 4 months, went through many serious rains and high pressure washes, I did notice a very serious liberally applied amount of goopy gray sealant that got all over everything when I installed the assemblies, maybe the retailer sealed them prior to shipment? I bought them through Performance Products in CA, they have always been great, I have purchased many times from them, Excellent!
Previous sealant was gray goop. Current retrofiting
of bixenon into Depo I'm using Permatex windshield
RTV because it was more viscous and advertised to
seek the orifices and cracks to seal. We'll see how
well it works. About $6 tube and flows...about 1/2 as
thick as regular silicone sealer I've used around bath-
tubs etc.
Seems like you go of lucky, I thought mine were sealed pretty well as well till they started to leak almost a year later[:(!]. Ruffrob warned me, and I didn't listen[B)]
Just an observation... as I was finishing up fitting
in an E55 bixenon into a Deop housing last week, I
carefully looked over the outside housing and noted
that there were other areas for moisture to enter.
The gasket surrounding the rectangular electrical
connector on mine was broken, leaving a gap. So I
sealed that up with silicone as well. Be sure the
large gasket inside the large back cover is also
unkinked and in good shape. If you have silicone
lubricant, use it as conditioner/lotion and work
into the rubber. Acts like moisterizer and keeps
the gasket youthful and pliable.
