I just purchased a 1996 E320. Looks and runs like a new car. However, I have seen a few things here on the forum regarding head gasket issues with these cars. How common an issue is this? Is there something I can do preventatively to ensure I do not have an issue with this? I'd appreciate any insights.
Over heating engine must be prevented to avoid headgasket problem. You must make sure engine cooling system is working properly, like checking radiator, radiator hose, engine cooling fan and drive belt for cracks. Don't never drive with steaming or heated engine.
Waltor, I totally agree with Raylee177 ...Just make sure your Cooling System is in top shape(Radiator,Hoses,Thermostat,Water Pump).I suggest replacing the Thermostat every 50k mi. If your cooling system fails- MAKE SURE YOU DONT DRIVE WITH OVERHEATING ENGINE... With the proper preventive TLC your I6 wont be a statistic in the "typical" I6 Blown Gasket Failures...Its all about the Love...LOL[:D]
