I recently purchased an 01 E320. It has the Motorola Timeport phone integrated with the car. I have a nicer phone than this already so I'm not real excited about chucking it just to get the integrated functionality with the car.
I've noticed that MB has some newer (slimmer, more features) phones that I could live with. Does anyone know if I can easily integrate those phones (v60, v600, or v710) by simply swapping out the phone and it's associated cradle.
If you intend to use one of the newer MB Motorola phones (V60, V600 or V710), you really have to replace the existing phone parts for the MHI phone parts in order to make it work.
It is also possible to get UHI installed - which is compatible with various GSM phones.
Just keep in mind, that you can NOT simply exchange cradles and use the existing PSE... That just doesn't do the trick with MHI / UHI.
I'll have to fess up to a bit of confusion on this. I followed the link that was provided above and read about the differences between MHI and UHI. I'm assuming that I have an MHI setup based upon what I read....I think.
I have the Motorola Timeport and it's a CDMA phone that the previous owner had set up w/Alltel. According to the website above, if it's MHI, I should be able to update the cradle and handset with relative ease. What am I missing?
If you already have the timeport installed (Fiber Optic wiring, PSE) all you need is a Mikbox, a generic Motorola V710 phone and a cable from the phone to the center console. You can get the Mikbox and cable from Mik. It's fairly simple to install.
I also have a 2001 E320 and the install was a breeze.
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I need a motorola phone, a mikbox and a new cradle. Too bad I just upgraded from an older Motorola to an LG phone w/Verizon a month or two ago.
Pricing the V710 on ebay and the other stuff from Mik, this sounds like a pretty expensive albeit easy upgrade. I'll probably wait until my "new every two" kicks in w/Verizon and readdress this at that time.
