Cupholder expert needed

Hi all,

I'm the proud new owner of a 2002 E430 4matic. The car came minus the cupholder, and after much searching I decided upon the one shown here:

http://www.fischer-automotive-systems.de/english/produkte/prods/21278c.html

The cupholder seems to lock into the compartment slots, however the console lid will not close when the cupholder is down, and when up the plastic "peak" at the rear of the left holder hits the front of the center arm rest cover. The cupholder came in a MB box, with part #B66920102, and the supplied instructions indicate it will fit a W210 (as well as the C-class).

Does anyone know if this is in fact the wrong part for my car and/or what the correct number would be?

Thanks for a great forum!

RE: Cupholder expert needed

I have/HAD the same cupholders in my W210. I decided to take it off as a precaution bec. i want to save myself from the dreaded $900-1100 Transmission Sensor Repair when you accidentally spill liquids in the center shifter console thus shorting the Sensor(Another common problem in all later MBs)...I would just recommend a door panel mounted cup holder...If you do decide to get the center console cupholder: BE CAREFULL NOT NOT SPILL LIQUIDS IN THE CONSOLE (transmission sensor part cost=$850 + $tealer Labor cost)

RE: Cupholder expert needed

Thanks, guys, for all the help and advice.

E-Klasse, thanks for the site. Lots of useful info there. I can't imagine I'm installing it wrong, though. It looks as though the three locating tabs on the bottom are lining up with the holes in the console, and the cupholder seems like it's locked in and down as far as it will go.

SaMaS, I'm afraid you're right. This must be the wrong cupholder.

If anyone has had success finding the right one for an '02, and has part number and/or site info, I'd be grateful if you could share. It seems like there's some misinformation about which cupholders will fit.

I got mine on ebay brand new for $29 delivered to my front door. Snapped right in. Works great, although it is a little flimsy.
